2 This was the last step in writing my second paper. I met with Jason to find ways to improve from my first paper in terms of my conclusion, grammar, and cohesion. e. Final Draft – A Hemingway Debate: The Effect of Structure on an Author’s Message………………………………………………………..41 IV. Paper 3 ( Cane by Jean Toomer) a. Artifact 1 – Paper 3 Draft 1 Comments………….………………………55 I struggled immensely with my final paper in comparison to the other two. This is evident of that. Also, this shows how much my argument changed throughout my writing process from the first draft to the final draft. Jason’s comments showed how I failed to provide a concrete argument. b. Artifact 2 – Paper 3 Outline……………………………………………...64 Although this outline wasn’t an official assignment for class, I found it to be very useful. It was the first detailed outline I made for the entire semester. But it was helpful in organizing my claims and showing proof for them. c. Artifact 3 – Exercise 24: Self-Review of Paper 1 and 2…………………68 Exercise 24 was focused more on sentence-level problems and grammar. The self-review allowed me to compare the proofreading problems from both papers and find a way to improve on them for my third and final paper. d. Artifact 4 – Exercise 25: Self-Review of Paper 1 and 2 pt. 2……………69 Exercise 25 was similar to Exercise 24 except it focused on higher-level problems such as my argument, introduction, and conclusion. I wrote out what methods of writing worked for the papers and what didn’t’. It showed me what I should try doing in my third paper to make it better. e. Paper 3 Draft – Region, Class, and Writers: An Examination of Cane ’s Most Important Influences……………………………………………….71 f. Final Draft – Region, Class, and Writers: Examining Cane ’s Most Important Influences……………………………………………………..81

3 Jung Introductory Essay – Back to the Basics If there was anything I learned in high school, it was that everything comes back to the basics. Knowing the fundamentals is crucial to learning the more complicated ideas and concepts. However, writing was never a subject in which I had a clear grasp of the basics. But this realization, that I don’t have a sure foundation of the basics, didn’t hit me until this past semester. The goals I laid out for myself for WR150 were a step up from the basics. I wanted to be better at formulating arguments and a better researcher (Self- assessment 8-9). This was all assuming I was able to create solid arguments and able to differentiate between scholars’ opinions and my own. WR100 was a good starting point for me in terms of transitioning between a high school writing course to a college one. It was more difficult in terms of the quality of writing that was expected, but it was however, manageable.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
