clinicals, but the outcomes were not always the best. Awkward would be the best word to describe those situations. Here we are now in the last quarter of nursing school, and now I understand more of how to apply what was taught to me. I am now able to walk into a client's room and know how to respond to clients in emotional distress, without the awkward silences while I was in thought. I am now much more confident in my approach to clients, as well as with myself. The knowledge and experience together have given an ever growing strength in clinical judgment for therapeutic communication. According to Dr. Tanner intuition has been "characterized by immediate apprehension of a clinical situation and is a function of experience with similar situations." Using this definition, intuition is the product of experience. Intuition to me is the ability to use past experiences and relate it to the present problem and immediately know how to take action. I feel that this is the reason that many nurses will say that they simply knew what to do in their current predicament. I feel that intuition is the result of constantly practicing clinical judgment. As a new nurse, I don't believe that I will have intuition right off the bat. I will have to remind myself to be patient with my reasoning, know the limits of my experience, and ask for assistance from other more seasoned nurses in some situations.
