Developmental Milestones Social and Personality Autism and ADHD. Difficulty reading body language and understanding social cues. Difficulty maintaining personal space. By the age of 6, a typical child is aware of emotions of self and others. Typical children will display more independence and social awareness. They will begin to complete self-help tasks independently. Friendships become increasingly complex and the child becomes more aware of the world around them. For an autistic child these milestones are delayed.
