I don’t think that the fact that she told me to keep the cash receipts book open will matter because I should know what’s right from what’s wrong and be able to do what’s supposed to be done. On the other hand, if I was to ignore Gena’s request and close the cash receipts book like I’m supposed to, then the entire company will be the one to suffer. Not only will the insurance company default on the loan agreement, it will also have to shut down Riverside Bottling Company causing everybody within the organization to lose their job. There are various alternatives that could be done, but as the assistant controller I will either comply with Gena’s request and leave the cash receipts book open for one additional day or be ethical and close it. The bad thing about keeping the cash receipts book open is that the company might be affected in a way and I could also face some criminal charges for such action. Closing it will also have

some consequences as the company might get shut down. If I was ever in that situation, I would do what’s ethical and close the cash receipts book no matter what and then try to get into an agreement with the insurance company. I’m pretty sure that if we were to explain our situation to the insurance company, we could come up with a way for us to keep our loan agreement at an expense of a reasonable penalty maybe. I don’t think that it will be impossible for us to come up with a solution we both can agree on.
