Managing Changes to Project Scope, Timeline, and budgetThe main point of the project change management process is to facilitate project changes. The process ensures that changes to the baseline project plan are carefully analyzed and are necessary to produce the approved project scope and deliverables (Billows, 2015). When any changes are made to a project including the major aspects of timeline, budget, and scope the project manager should collect as much information as possible before recommending it to the project sponsor and the change control board. Most projects larger in size will always have a CCB, their responsibility is to analyze, evaluate, authorize, or reject newly proposed changes for the project. First, a change order request must be made by significant sponsors such as stakeholders and/or members of the team like the project manager. This
can hinder scope creep due to immediate and inaccurate changes without the approval of the CCB. After the approval of the change order request it is the responsibility of the PM to get all employees on board whether influencing them in the right direction or encouraging them to keep healthy relationships with project sponsors. Lastly, it is the project managers job to assess all areas of a change management process including unwanted consequences that can arise from anywhere. Considering it is the PM’s duty to oversee the scope, duration, cost, risk, quality and resources or the project the PM’s recommendations will play a pivotal role in the process.
