Nearly 40 percent of American community sides with the banning of handgun sales (Cohen 2019). Gun and Second Amendment supporters are in their right to be on the defensive side when it comes to media coverage. The media always tends to side with the victims and showing that the easy access to guns is the reason why there is so much gun violence. Since anyone can practically buy any sort of weapon is the reason why gun violence advocates say that restrictions towards gun ownership would help save lives. Those who stand behind the Second Amendment say that the restrictions they are trying to impose on everyone is a violation of one’s liberties which are guaranteed and protected by the United States Constitution. Congress at one point tried to enforce a ban on “assault-style” weapons back in the 1990’s. Since then, all attempts to try and enforce restricted sales of such weapons have completely fallen apart. Currently, no one really knows what President Trump wants to do exactly about gun control and gun violence. According to Ron Elving, “If new restrictions are enacted…they will surely be tested in the courts…it will be argued that they infringe on the rights of law-abiding citizens” (Elving 2018). This just goes to show that the rights that our Founding Fathers left for us cannot be changed even if it means just changing the rules of the ownership of guns. lawyers are reading in between the lines of the Founding Fathers. “The Founding Fathers were willing to be edited…but they did not want it to be easy. So, they made the amending process a steep uphill climb, requiring a clear national consensus to succeed” (Elving 2018).
