10. Target population the agency serves;
CHC targets individuals who suffer from mental illness and dependency in
East Texas, CHC also offers support to the individuals families. CHC offers
help to anyone no matter the ability to pay.
11. Services and programs offered;
CHC offers counseling, emergency placement, psychiatric services, and
indigent services to children, teen, adults and veterans.
12. What criteria (i.e. income, age, etc.) must clients meet in order to
be served by the agency;
There is no age limit or income requirement. All individuals or patients
reaching out for help with be evaluated by the CHC staff for assistance.
13. What you found interesting about this agency or helpful for you
as a professional nurse.
Individuals with mental health issues is something that I always have felt
very strongly about, I feel so often they don’t receive the care that they
deserve, and that this demographic needs protection. Working in the

Emergency Department, I frequently care for patients with psychiatric
issues, dependency issues, patients with suicidal ideations and or
attempts or patients with homicidal ideations. I have a strong relationship
with many members of the staff of CHC; we work together to find the best
outcomes for patients and their families.

We are so fortunate to have such an abundance of mental health
resources in the United States. I recently spoke with a couple of coworkers
who are originally from other countries where mental health is viewed so
differently. For example, someone explained to me that being suicidal is
illegal where they are from and they would just be put in jail rather than
receive any type of crisis intervention.
