The identifying line of activity and staff function is that line workers have direct responsibility for accomplishing objectives and staff refers to the employees who help them. 6. Job description can be utilized to help find prospective employees to determine if they fit the needs of the position. This can be utilized in the advertisement of a job position that is available. If you are looking for a front desk clerk, the job description would include must things such as clerical experience is a must, filing paperwork, answering switch lines, creating meeting slides etc. 2. It serves as a basis for the orientation and training programs in the event of initial selection. When I was hired at Autozone as a sales clerk, I was told that part of the position requires me to put supplies away when they arrive and that I had to present a welcome and inviting to presence to attract more customers. 3. It serves as a purpose for performance evaluation. This is very critical and can be used when an individual is not meeting the full needs of the position. For example, I had a customer service member who was not properly putting the supplies away and had an excuse about it every time.
