acertainphenomenon witnessed in the area of study. On the other hand, according to Kumar(2010) descriptive research is conducted with aim of answering already framed research questions. Descriptive research is mainly used to study behaviour in populations, determining frequency and relationship between variables. Casual research designs are used in establishing cause-and-effect interactions between variables (Yin, 2003) This research adopts exploratory research because it enables conduction of data collection with the aim of gaining new insights and ideas about strategic change process at ENN. In using interviews, the researcher is able to ask questions related to ‘what’ and ‘why’ issues in strategic change. Through this approach, the researcher is able to ask managers questions about the motivation of strategic change and the specific aspects of change in internal organisational structures. Table 3- 1 Research design Research objectives source Interview question Questionnaire item To analyse the motives under lying ENN Group’s strategic change; Johnson et al., (2011) Q1, Q2,Q3, Q4, 1-3 To analyse ENN Group’s ide as and measures in strategic c hange; Hammer and Champy (2003);Bumes (2004);Karim, (2006) Q5, Q6, Q7, Q8, 4-8 To analyse the risk in ENN G roup’s strategic change; McNeil et al., (2010); Michalski (2009); PMI (2004) Q9, 9-13 To analyse how ENN Group mitigates risk in strategic cha nge. Kasap&Kaymak (2007);Stalker (2003) Q10 14-19 3.8 Sampling Sampling is necessary to facilitate data collection through questionnaires. In this study, convenience sampling is adopted. In convenience sampling, selection of 22
subjects for the study is done according to the availability of respondents (Gray, 2004). Specifically, the researcher focused on employees of ENN. The advantage and the reason for choosing convenience sampling is that not all employees could be available at the same time for the questionnaires. Therefore through convenience sampling, only employees who were available took part in the study. 3.9Data collection and analysis For the purpose of data collection, the interviews were administered on 6 managers of ENN Group in China. The choice of interviewing managers was arrived at because they are the ones tasked with process of coordinating the process of strategic change in a company. Moreover, managers were chosen depending on different departmental systems in the company to ensure that all aspects of strategic change were captured. In this regard, managers from human resource department, production, customer service and the general managers of the company were chosen for the interview. The researcher has a cousin who is working as the deputy HR manager in ENN,she can help the researcher to contact the managers in different departments. With the help of the cousin, the researcher was able to undertake the interview in the company’s boardroom for convenience purposes. The interviewees would be available in case of any emergent needs within the company. Each interview lasted 20 minutes to allow response to all questions. The interview process entailed a sit down with each
