oWhat leadership style best describes your present or former managers? My former manager's leadership was Democratic Leadership. She always made sure to get our input on matters that concern the nurses before deciding. By doing this she always made us feel value and even when the decision she made doesn’t match with our ideas, she always makes out time to explain to us the rationale behind her decision and make out time to answer any questions we might have.
oWhy is it important for nurse managers to have a clear understanding of their predominant leadership style? It is essential for nurse managers to have a clear understanding of their predominant leadership style because it has an impact on the nurse's willingness to carry out their duties and responsibilities with much devotion, it can also help to minimize nurse turnover which will result in retention of competent nurses. It also gives the nurse manager to evaluate if her leadership style is effective and if not, it gives them the opportunity to make changes.ReferenceSullivan, E. (2018). Positive feedbackand motivation from leaders makes a huge difference in what kind of workethics we are willing to give. Positivity is a great quality to have. I am an easy come, easy go kind of person and can just about work well under all leadership styles. But definitely like recognition and positive feedback the best. Good luck in your future endeavors! A positive work environment allows for the happiest employees. When your employees are happy, they are more likely to help out when asked. I
prefer democratic leadership style. I see that is the style you are currentlywork in. I am working under authoritarian and it is not the style for me. Have you ever worked for a manager that uses authoritarian? With your positive personality, I think you would be in the same boat as me as not liking it. I wish that during the job interview process that manage had disclose which leadership style they use. I think this would help with personalities and finding the right environment for you.ReplyReply to CommentoCollapse SubdiscussionAlisha AyonAlisha AyonTuesdayJun 9 at 8:33pmManage Discussion EntryOf the four main leadership styles I believe I work best under the democratic leadership style. I believe this style work best for me because our input matters. I think the greatest leaders teach their people by opportunities. When there is an issue the manager goes to their people for a solution instead of demanding a new way. This allows the group to work together to come up with the best common solution. We learn how to problem solve, work together, and how to lead by example.
