Wadensten, 2013). Therefore, treatment plan for a client with dementia should include
discussions about legal guardianship in progression of the disease impairs the ability to self-
make decision.
Conclusion
Dementia is a disorder of acquired deficits in multiple areas of cognition. The
manifestation of this disease is associated with increasing disability and dependency on
caregivers, even though the progressive deterioration varies greatly in different patients with
dementia (Govind, 2020). There is no pharmacological treatment to cure Dementia. However, the
treatment slows down the progression of the disease providing clients and family members some
quality of life. Further, it is imperative to remember medications take time to show positive
results with close monitoring of doses over a length of time. It is also important to note that
during treatment, the changes in the MMSE should be evaluated over months, not weeks. The
absence of change in the MMSE after 4 weeks of treatment should not be a source of concern.
