being in a car in under an hour. The airport itself was incredibly clean and well maintained. Since Ive mentioned my flight into Guarulhos International Airport, I chose this terminal for Discussion 4. Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) is the largest airport in Latin America, serving more than 39 million passengers a year. GRU is composed of three passenger terminals and one cargo terminal. One of the things that make this airport different is that it has two panther firefighting trucks in its fleet. These had to be imported, and GRU is the first airport in Brazil to import a Panther. On October 1 st , 2015 GRU inaugurated a new firefighting section that was just built. The building stands in the middle of the airport, and has a tower giving a full view of all the runways and taxiways. GRU has also been a first in many other things.

In July of 2013, GRU inaugurated a new Datacenter and Control Center for managing and monitoring IT networks, it also became the first airport in Brazil to have a safe-room. All these new constructions couldn’t happen without building another terminal for more passengers and revenue. On May 11, 2014 GRU officially opened its third terminal. It was built in only 18 months, with a capacity to receive 12 million passengers per year. Gru is a massive airport, and on March 30 th , 2014 they received their first Boeing 747-800. Since then, Lufthansa has established daily flights between GRU and Frankfurt. Shortly after this, on November 14, 2015, an A380 landed. The A380 is the largest commercial aircraft in the world. To prepare for and handle this, GRU invested in broadening four taxiways and reinforcing the shoulder of runway 09L/27R.

All of these small things that GRU has done was meant to increase efficiency and decrease time spent waiting. In 2016, GRU was named 3 rd most punctual in the world, behind Haneda, Japan and Munich, Germany.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
