Raven 2 rejected, for example, from Columbia. He ultimately chose to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1939. Initially interested in mathematics, Feynman found the courses easy and was concerned by the abstraction and lack of application within the Math degree and the department in general. He eventually switched his discipline to physics. As a second year, Richard took graduate level Theoretical Physics lectures and was very interested in quantum mechanics although there was no course offered on the subject; he read any books he could find regarding the subject, most notably, Paul Adrien Maurice Dirac’s The Principles of Quantum Mechanics . He received his doctorate from Princeton University in 1942. Feynman was married three times and he had two children during his third marriage, Carl and Michelle. Richard developed two rare forms of cancer Liposarcoma and Waldenström's macroglobulinemia . He died shortly after a final attempt at surgery on February 15, 1988 at the age of 69.
