National Security Agency needs to have its funding cut and powers abated. Proponents of government surveillance say that giving up privacy is critical to security and that NSA are ensuring that the United States of America is safe from terrorism. However, there is no evidence pointing to that. The National Privacy Board released a report which indicated that they did not a single case that involved the NSA thwarting terrorist from the help of surveillance (James 44). Additionally, the report indicates that the only case when a terrorist was identified, law enforcement officers were still going to find him. Terrorism acts have continued to hit the country and the watch of the “big brother.” There is no justification keeping NSA running as it is now.

Ajibose 2 Furthermore, the actions of NSA are unconstitutional. The agency collects a bulk of metadata which is against the letter and spirit of the Fourth Amendment. The Fourth Amendment protects individuals from the invasion of their right to privacy. Wiretapping goes against that as it helps the NSA to collect anyone’s metadata secretly. The data collected can be held for an indefinite period (Perez 1). Also, the Fourth Amendment renders any information obtained unlawfully inadmissible in a court of law.
