related to patient information databases with corresponding of that are currently used in health information management. Some examples, electronic medical record systems (EHRs, EMRs, andPHRs), computerized disease registries, and electronic prescribing. An electronic medical record (EMR) is a record that contains the standard medical and clinical data gathered in one’s provider office, and a personal health record (PHR) is an electronic application used by patients to maintain and manage their health information in a private, secure, and confidential environment (Bowie & Green,2015). Although, electronic medical systems are one of the biggest implemented technologies in health information management, there is also computerized disease registries; which can provide participating providers with clinical data from across the community. It can also allow providers to identify patients as having certain conditions based on test performed by other clinicians (CMS, 2014). Finally, electric prescribing also known as e-prescribing is a prescriber’s ability to electronically send an accurate, error free, and understandable prescription directly to a pharmacy from the point of care (CMS, 2014). Technology in healthcare is continuously changing and will continue to develop over time.RolesThe relevant roles of Featherfall all interact with technology is some type of way or another. The health information management team interacts with technology because they are theones that implement the information systems and train the other staff at the medical center on how to use the technology properly and effectively. The clinical staff interacts with technology in
many ways. For example, the clinical staff utilize the electronic health records, collecting patient’s vitals, to performing required procedures by physicians. The administrative staff use technology for collecting demographic information, and other computer systems to verify insurance information and collect payments from patients. Every person in Featherhall has a specific role in utilizing the technology which that impacts the patient. Evaluation I would evaluate Featherhall the new health information technology. I would implement the HITECH Act which would give the health information management team the authority to establish programs to improve healthcare quality, safety, and efficiency through the promotion ofhealth information technology (HealthIt, 2016). This will allow them to implement electronic health records. I would suggest that the coding system be updated and to make sure that it is compliant with health regulations and laws to solve those issues. With the implementation of electronic health records this will help the clinical staff with record keeping and patient care. I would then update the computer software for administrative staff so that they can easily access and collect demographic information from the patient and be able to verify any insurance that the
