wearing shorts was to make the tattoo on the right leg visible. The t-shirt is written “boy” with an eagle sign. The unintentional message portrayed in this is the strength and inherent abilities of the boy child going higher. Also, the image shows a message of me having a greater focus into the future full of hope. The background of the environment portrays wall with rocks showing an old setting. Further, the setting and lighting brings out the happy mood of the subject hence solidifying the real intention for the selfie. A selfie like the one attached can be referred to as a portrait which has been taken by a smartphone. However, there are various factors that separate the two entirely. These factors include specificity, history, and also traditions. Unlike selfies, self-portraits cannot be replaced if one is unsatisfied of the results. The gaze is a term which is mainly used to describe the relationship of looking which he subject is capture in through trajectory dynamics of being looked and looking at objects. Velasquez used the Las Meninas painting to demonstrate the gaze. This aspect is a great approach to make portraits and taking selfies in the modern age. The gaze in the selfie shows me looking at something up higher than my height. This closely relates to self-portraiture as in the case of works by Velasquez in Las Meninas. The gaze is evidently enacted from through the spatial field base in the angle with which the selfie was taken. Just as in the works of Velasquez, the gaze in the picture is clearly related to the concept of image-making.
