Operations Management leads the way for the organisations to achieve its goals with minimum effort. Operations management is recognised as an important factor in a country’s economic growth. Operations management may be defined as the design, operations and improvement of the production systems that create the firms primary product and services. Many contributors have contributed for the development of operations management like Adam Smith, F. W. Taylor, Charles Babbage, Henry Gantt, and others. Operating system converts inputs (physical resources) in order to provide outputs, the function of which is to satisfy customer wants i.e., to provide some utility for the customer. Operation managers are concerned with planning, organizing, and controlling the activities which affect human behaviour through models. With regard to the objectives of operations management, it can be categorised into customer service and resource utilisation. Customer service must provide something to a specification which can satisfy the customer in terms of cost and timing, and resource utilization to utilise resources for the satisfaction of customer wants effectively.
