Delehanty, 2006) The success for Jackson didn’t end there. After a falling out in Chicago, Coach Jackson agreed to coach the Lakers in Los Angeles. Once again, Coach Jackson took on the challenge of transforming Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal into the most prolific Center-Guard combo in the NBA. Coach Jackson finished in Los Angeles with 5 more NBA Championships (Jackson & Delehanty, 2013) Coach Jackson’s ability to set a structure for the players to express their individuality but also be a part of something greater is what made him one of the best.
THE MOST EFFECTIVE COACHING STYLE 6 His cooperative style was highly noted throughout the NBA during his time. What made Coach Jackson more successful than other cooperative style coaches though? Coach Jackson had the uncanny ability to not be singular in his methodology. Coach Jackson transformed the cooperative style of coaching into his own style of coaching and combined it with moments of command style and submissive style. What I want to draw from Coach Jackson is the ability to know when to exhibit different characteristics of each style of coaching. His ability to transform a group of “me’s” into a “we” is absolutely remarkable and the character he instilled in his team will have a lasting mark. Upon the review of my personal experiences, understanding of communication and examination of legendary coaches, I have found my complex answer to what is a quite simple question. In deciding which style I would want to adopt as my own, I would say all three. Using cooperative coaching as my basis, I would adapt variations of command and submissive styles throughout my career. Through this I will be able to create a better group of men or women not only in their respective sports, but also in society. My ultimate goal is to create leaders in society that will have the tools necessary to tackle any challenge that comes their way and make the world just a bit better. References Griffin, E.
