Privileged New York “WASPS” o WASP is a North American sociological term derived from an acronym for White Anglo-Saxon Protestant. It originated in the United States in reference to white people with an "old money" heritage. The word is frequently used in a derogatory fashion. Working class whites are not usually referred to as WASPs, even if they are Protestants of Anglo-Saxon descent. Members of the privileged class of Americans reveal the tribal markers that help them recognize who truly “belongs.” o Upwardly mobile African Americans in North Carolina Middle class African-Americans offer a perspective on the complicated relationship between race and social class in the United States
