think that is a good thing and if someone is being raped in a cell the perpetrator of the rape can stop because the opposite sex staff member just announced them self. I think they could do a better job with this one. I think that there needs to be more things in place to protect juvenile inmates from other juvenile inmates.

Question 3: Chapter 10 is devoted to the subject of female prisoners. Post a response to question 8 in the Discussion Questions section on page 252. Additionally, comment on the idea of raising children in a correctional facility as is allowed in a few correctional facilities in the country. Identify and briefly describe a program that you have found. Question 8: Identify and discuss at least three guiding principles associated with effective correctional operations when considering female offenders. I think if you take a look at 1. Reasons why women commit crimes, you will have a better understanding of the crimes that they committed and why they are there this will allow a better way of looking at the individual inmate and seeing what is the reasoning why she is there and preventing it in the future. 2. Looking at the relationships between women in an institutional setting will better help us realize the family unit that they usually form this will also help us reach the masses as a whole when dealing with these women. 3. We must also look at the Challenges that are involved in reentering the community. We don’t know where these women are going after jail and I think looking at them and coming up with a plan is the best way. We can point them towards places that would be able to help them when they go back to the society. I think raising a child in a correctional facility is okay. I think as long as the child leaves a facility before a certain age is okay with me. A mother can give their baby the best the best attention and can also develop a bond with that child that may help that mother in the future, because she has a reason for staying out of jail. I have no problem with it as long as the child is not in danger. This also should be a right that the mother earns as well. I read a report that raising a baby behind bars may keep the mother from returning. I like Washington States Residential Parenting Program at the Washington Correction Center for Women in Gig Harbor. This program started in 1999 and allows low security level inmates who were incarcerated after they were pregnant to raise their children until they get out. The key is that the recidivism rate for these women is 15 percent which is compared to 38 percent for the rest of the state. This program lets woman control finances and also allows them to return to the street with their children and have the skills needed to care for their baby. I like this program and I love the recidivism rate being 23 percent lower than the norm.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
