dangerous people from purchasing a fire arm andincreases the safety of the people.Did you know that more than 90percent of the American public supportuniversal background checks? Another84 percent of those being gun ownersand 74 percent being members of theNational Rifle Association (NRA).
What do the opponents think? Many people try to argue that background checks fringe upon ones right to privacy. According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) they feel that it put all of their personal identity into a system that allows anyone to view their information. On top of this they feel that this could give too much power to the government and could result in them taking all guns away from everyone. Policy Recommendations More states need to establish a universal background check that allows for fewer options for criminals and others who should not own a gun from purchasing one. With the current loophole in our background check systems it is hard to establish a safe way for people to access guns. The government could even create jobs by forming a position that works on adding information in background systems to keep them up to date.
