we type bootrec/fixmbr. This option will repair a corrupted or damaged master boot record on the hard disk drive. This option will repair a corruptedor damaged master boot record, the MBR. The MBR is usually the first sector of your hard disk driveand its purpose is to tell the BIOS where to look for the operating system on your computer. If it gets corrupted, then, the system won't boot because it can't find the operating system when the BIOS hands off control of the boot process. Typically you'll see some type of error message when this happens, like, "Operating system not found", or "Error loading operating system", or "Missing operating system" or something like that. So to fix the MBR, you run bootrec/fixmbr, hit Enter. And the operation completed successfully. This system is actually running just fine so there was nothing to fix, but if we did have a corrupt MBR, this command would have taken care of that. FixBoot Option 2:56-4:08 So with that in mind, let's now look at the /fixboot parameter. This option is used to write a new boot sector to the system partition. This utility is going to create a boot sector that's compatible with your specific version of Windows. We're running Windows 8.1 here, so we need to have a Windows 8.1 boot sector on my hard disk drive. This command is very useful in situations where the boot sector itself has been damaged or you tried to create a dual boot system, and during the process, the existing boot sector, say for this Windows 8.1 system, got overwritten with the boot sector for an older version of Windows. Like Windows 7, or Windows Vista, or something like that, or maybe even with a LINUX boot sector. So to fix this problem, you run bootrec again, but this time you use the /fixboot option. When you do it, a new boot sector is written. Once again, this system is running fine so it didn't really have to do anything, but if I had a screwed up boot sector, this would have fixed it. Now we need to talk about how to rebuild the boot configuration data. The boot configuration date, or BCD, contains a detailed list of what is supposed to be loaded when the system starts up. RebuildBcd Option 4:09-6:36 If you have missing or damaged files in the BCD, then you're going to get boot errors. If this happens you can use this parameter right here, RebuildBcd, with the bootrec command. When I run this command, it will completely rebuild our boot configuration data. Hit Enter. Now, we have some interesting output to this command. If we go back and read the description of what the RebuildBcd option does with the Bootrec command, it says it "scans all disks for installations that are compatible with Windows, and allows the user to choose which one to add to the boot configuration store. What I did, prior to starting this demo, is I took a Windows 7 disk that already had Windows 7 installed on it,installed and working, and I connected it as a second hard disk drive in this system.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
