Carlson 5 their first impression by telling us a little bit about them instead of judging them without talking to them. When someone walks into the room a little funny, we shouldn’t just think that they have always been that way. When someone has their lips pierced shut and their face is red like an apple, we shouldn’t think that they are upset at us or this or that, but that we need to gather more information before we make our claim. When someone is storming their way through the store, we don’t need to make an opinion of someone because we have no idea why they are in such a hurry or what they are doing. We will live much better lives if we try to tone our thousands of ideas of what our brains gather together about someone down a notch! “We all know that looks matter. What most of us don’t’ understand is just how much looks matter, and how difficult it is for us to ignore a person’s appearance when making a social judgment.
