Discriminant Analysis plays the same role as the multiple linear regressions by predicting an outcome. The basic purpose of discriminant analysis is to estimate the relationship between a single categorical dependent variable and a set of quantitative independent variables.

Include predicting the success or failure of a new product, determining what category of credit risk a person falls into, classifying students as to vocational interests, deciding whether a student should be admitted to graduate school or predicting whether a company will be a success or not.
