This will allow them opportunity to change their habits or learn how toadapt to the other more effectively and harmoniously.Weighted MatrixThe use of weighted scoring allows flexible methodology to compare similar items against criteria. It provides objectivity in decision making. Criteria must be considered and ranked. The top ranked criteria is then considered in the weighted ranking solutions. This method of decision making helps one to examine a problem and not make an “off the cuff” decision. Solutions used for DWT’s weighted matrix (Appendix C) were communication, listening,respect and compromise. These solutions were considered high priority to have in place for effective, smooth leadership transition. Four criteria were initially chosen: family, customers, employees and decision. Pair ranking eliminated decisions from the criterion. The elimination of decisions was surprising since it was considered important to business operations.The heaviest weight was given to employees. Employees are the cornerstone of a successful business. They are what keep a business producing its good or service. In the transportation business, employees are the organization’s public relations. They interact with thecustomers daily therefore it is important that they buy in to the organization’s values and goals.Customers are what keeps an organization afloat. They are the revenue source thus it’s higher ranking. Finally, there is family. The business is family owned and operated so it must considered.

DM Tools 10For personal comparison, the solutions were also pair ranked. Communication was ranked the highest which correlates with the leadership concerns. Concern with the sibling’s abilities to communicate effectively is confirmed. Effective decision making and business transactions between employees and customers may be adversely affected otherwise. Interpersonal skills must be learned and developed between Dale Jr. and Linda. Effective and successful leaders must have good communication skills. These skills will unite the siblings and mutual respect will develop leading to a successful transition.
