The first step that I would use to build a good rapport with the 26-year-old Lebanese female
living in graduate-student housing is finding out how well she speaks English since it maybe her
second language. I also would need to know how well she understands English too. Effective
communication is the key to any situation especially when talking with your patients. Cultural
competency in a health care provider is being competent in recognizing the individual’s values
and adapting to provide patient-centered communication, leading to a trusting relationship
between the provider and patient (Ball, J. W. et al, 2019). The interview will be based off the
cultural finding and beliefs. It’s very important to use open-ended questions with this age group.

When seeing patients from other countries you must give them special time and attention. This
not only helps with any difficult topics but also to let the patient feel that you are genuinely
concerned about their health issues.
