It was during the first three years after legalization that Medicaid, government program for health care provision to low-income pregnant women, children, the elderly and the disabled took care of abortion hospital bills. Later on the Medicaid could only be limited to take care of abortions in the cases of incest, rape or when a mother’s life is in danger. This was after the congress passed the 1977 Hyde Amendment (Brittania). due to annual amendments and passing of the Hyde amendment the pendulum of opinion has undergone a lot of changes, for example 1979 abortions due to endanger of mothers life was abolished and in 1981 abortions due to rape and incest were denied. Currently they are both allowed for financing especially in 1993 when the congress allowed financing for victims of rape and incest.
