The patient’s family is a dynamic that cannot be overlooked. It is through the family that many questions about the patient’s condition can be answered. Family members mean well and only want what is best for the patient most times. As a nurse, one must observe and ask appropriate questions so the family can be a part of the recovery process as well when it is possible.Coworkers play an important role as a part of a team in patient care. Even though you arethe primary nurse for that patient, the nursing team is responsible for all patients and should help whenever they can. Sometimes that teamwork can man life or death for a patient and that should drive nurses to work better among each other and be there more often for each other. As far as my own health, I feel I can do better at seeking heath care when I need it. I am reluctant to go to the doctor for acute care. I often feel “I’m a good nurse, I can take care of myself” so I don’t make appointments to be seen. I do get annual checkups but it’s hard for me tosit in an emergency room.
T. HOUSTON PHILOSOPHY OF NURSING4Vision for the futureIn two years I would like to have finished my BSN and still working as a case manager. I think that is a realistic goal for me considering I have a child in college also. I know that if I want to continue to grow in the case management field of nursing, a bachelor’s degree is necessary.
