has improved their skills. We can also survey our regular patients to see if they were able to
easily identify the use of the materials posted in the exam rooms and bathrooms.
Overall Evaluation of Clinical Practice Project
Overall my clinical project went well. Moving forward, the screening tool will be used
during the triage process with all patients. It has become part of the standardized process. This
gives us an opportunity to access all patients that come into the clinic. Staff is on board with

bringing awareness and identifying any victims that may come through our door. This promotes
safety and encouragement to become a stakeholder in helping a community problem. I did not
receive much push back from adding this screening tool, everyone that works in our clinic is
dedicated to taking care of their community. All staff members have worked vigorously to be
sure that this screening tool was customized to our population of patients. We have a second
clinic on the eastside that this screening tool will also be implemented into.
Preceptor Experience
My mentor for this project is a Certified Nurse Practitioner in my clinic. She has
dedicated her career to public health; this was very helpful while creating this project because
she has such a passion for what we do. While working with my mentor we have discussed how
we are in the perfect position to not only bring awareness but help combat human trafficking by
identifying victims. My mentor has worked in several clinics that have put her in the position to
help potential victims. Together we have come up with some great questions to add to the
assessment tool and action plans for staff if necessary. The focus on education for the staff
including non-medical staff has been a strong topic that we have discussed and brainstormed.
The plans of action for safety are going to strongly involve the clerks being able to distract or
call for help in a timely fashion. Their first assessment could quickly identify a victim, this is
very helpful when implementing our safety tool and all that is involved.
In conclusion, the overall issue is global but being able to save one victim not only makes
a difference for that victim but could potentially save another. Everyone in our clinic is
committed to taking care of our community and this is another step towards making a difference.
Word spreads fast and hopefully others will discover that we are a safe place for them if they
want to ask for help. Implementing this tool in our clinic gives us some relief that a victim can

easily be identified and offered help. Our safety plan gives us knowledge and training to react in
several situations and the ability to provide the proper resources to the victims. Overall, the
staff's confidence has increased, and they feel the tool and the plan is an asset to our clinic.
