para. 2). System or Change Theory I have chosen the Lippitt’s change theory for the creation and implementation of the patient and family resource room. The assessment has three phases. Phase one is to diagnosis the problem, which is not having a resource room for patients and families to use during the hospitalization. Phase two is to assess motivation and or capacity for change. There are rooms within the facility that are not in use and can be converted into a resource room. Phase three is to assess the change agent’s motivation and resources. The agent is proactive about making the change, and resources will have to be found to fund the materials for education. Planning is the second step in this change theory, and there are two phases noted. Phase four is to select the progressive change objective. Phase five is to choose the appropriate role of the change agent. Implementation is phase six in the change theory. The final step is evaluation, which is phase seven and terminates the helping relationship. Lippitt’s change theory “emphasized participation of key members of the target system throughout the change process, particularly during planning” (Sullivan, 2017, p. 62). Financial Implications The capital budget for the fascial year of 2019-2020 has already been submitted and established for the healthcare system. Financially the resource room will be completed with

The warehouse can be used for tables and chairs as well as bookshelves and monitors for use within the room. The furniture will be brought to the area and left for the team to arrange the room to best work for the patient’s needs. The cost of pamphlets and other educational material will be asked for from Nursing Administration and the education department. The video of core morbidities will be made in house and edited by the marketing department. These will run on a loop in the resource room to provide information for the patients and families to watch and listen too while in the room. The video can be updated and changed without limits due to the video being made in-house for little to no cost. Of course, some of the websites that have information PDF's can be printed in-house left for patient use. The cost of paper and printer ink is distributed throughout the organization and not allocated to just one department. A paper that has websites for each given core morbidity can be placed on one paper and printed for use as well. The nurse educator could locate materials from other educators within the healthcare system. She would also know how to obtain educational materials from other sources. The capital budget plans will be sent in for approval in September of 2019. A budget increase for educational materials will be asked for and discussed with the Chief Nursing Officer.
