The estimated cost of a new smart grid is estimated to be $75 billion. Along with the expense, there is also the rebuilding of the complete infrastructure, which would not be an easy task. 4. What other areas of our infrastructure could benefit from “smart” technologies? Describe one example not listed in the case. Other potential areas that could benefit from smart technologies would be gas and water consumption. With accurate readings for all utilities, usage may be lower, thus leading to lower costs.
