Chapter 2: Know Brofenbrenner ecological theory 1. The core unit is the Microsystem – the setting in which children live. The immediate and daily experiences. (family, school, peers, church group, neighborhood play area, health services) 2. The Mesosystem – reflects the interconnection between the people, and organizations in the microsystem, such as those between school and home. 3. The Exosystem – exists within larger contexts, such as neighbors, friends of family, mass media, social welfare services, legal services. 4. The Macrosystem – wherein the values of the larger culture reside. 5. The Chronosystem – These interconnected systems are like a slowly moving ball, rolling on through a sociopolitical context that changes over time. Know the issues of diversity
