Now notice all these are high, that means that I am impacting my startup speed quite a bit. In this situation I can come through and say "Okay, which of these do I need and which of these do I not need?" This one's my anti-virus software so I want that loaded every time at system start. I use OneDrive all the time so I want that loaded at system start too. But this application is used forestablishing a VPN connection. Well I only use the VPN connection every now and then I don't use it every day. Do I really need it loaded every single time the system starts? Probably not in which case I can come down here and click disable and now when the system boots it'll load this one, this one and this onebut it will not load that one and depending upon how many of these you disable you will frequently see a dramatic increase in the boot-up time of the system. Repair Applications 11:00-12:15 Now the last thing I want to show you before we end this demonstration is how to repair an application. From time to time it doesn't happen very often, but on occasion the files associated with an application that are used to run it will come corrupt for some reason. It could be memory error, hard disk errors, operating system errors, you name it. Occasionally that does happen, in which case you may need to repair it and you could do that with some applications by going in to programs and features in Control Panel, selecting the application that isn't behaving, in this case it's the QuickTime 7 application on this system and then come up

here and hit the repair option. Now not all applications have the repair option, for example if I were to click on my anti-virus software right here, notice that it goes away. So if I were having an issue with my anti-virus software, maybe some files got corrupted, what I'd have to do is actually uninstall the entire package and then reinstall it. For the QuickTime package however, notice that we have the repair option. If I launch the repair option is what it will do is go through and look at all the system files and it will identify any that are missing or that are corrupt and will then install new versions of those application files. Click on Repair, we have to elevate privilegesto let it repair the application. Summary 12:16-12:36 That's it for this demonstration. In this demo, we talked about troubleshooting application shortcuts. We talked about how to kill hung applications in Task Manager. We talked about to set the priority ofa process in Task Manager. We talked about how to set the processor affinity in Task Manager. We talked about how to manage applications that run at startup using Task Manager and then we ended this demonstration by talking about to repair applications. Troubleshooting Windows Services 0:00-1:43 In this demonstration, we're going to spend some time learning how to troubleshoot services on a Windows system. Now, services are special applications that run on Windows but they run in the background without a user interface. For example if I were to come over here and launch Notepad, I see a user interface that I can use to interact with the Notepad executable. If I go in to Task Manager and under Apps I see my notepad

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
