Distribute learning- experiment with several shorter sessions spaced out over time; ex; study for an hour or two then wash the dishes; Use mini breaks as rewards; don’t overload your brain; although when you are so engrossed you can’t just put it down, keep going Be aware of attitudes- All of us can forget info. that contradict our opinions; look for connections to your own interests; be willing to put them on hold Elaborate- according to Daniel Schacter, all courses in memory improvement are based on elaboration; ask yourself questions about incoming info.; Intend to remember- intention to learn it now rather than later; pretend you’ll be quizzed at the end; each time your mind wonders mark a tick; Recall it Remember something else- remember something related to what your forgetting; you can unblock your recall by stimulating that area of your memory Notice when you do remember- reading, what you have heard, seen, or done; Use it before you lose it- to remember something access it a lot; read it, write it, say it, listen to it, apply it; teach it- teaching demands mastery, form a study group
