After slavery was abolished, the United States was majorly affected, positively and negatively. One example of a economic change on the country was the

establishment of the sharecropping system. Former masters would rent land to African Americans and they would allow them to grow crops and pay back about two-thirds of the money they made off of the cash crops. This system was used to keep African Americans in a continuous cycle of debt. Another change in the American society, politically was the issuing of the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments. The Fourteenth Amendment made citizenship available to all, even African Americans. Having citizenship allowed African Americans to take advantage of basic rights they should have been entitled to since the beginning. The Fifteenth Amendment allowed voting rights to all men, which included African Americans as well. This impacted the African American community because although their rights were finally being recognized, it created new problems for them to solve like whites cheating their ways into the ballots to avoid African Americans from voting in any way possible.
