outside of the group setting. The group facilitator or social worker is responsible to ensure clientinformation such as registration, sign in sheets including address or phone numbers are never visible orshared with participants (Lasky, 2006).Informed consent is a clear written outline of a client’sconsent for information to be released that would otherwise have been confidential. The informedconsent is specific release outlining what can be released and to who and for a determinant amount oftime.Confidentiality in individual therapy is very different as there is an expectation that no informationwould be released except for indication of self-harm or intended harm for someone else. There is anadvantage to individual therapy in that it is individually focused, however, groups offer peer support andaccountability which is valuable. The responsibility of confidentiality is solely placed on the therapist andmeetings should be held in areas not open to others and nothing could be overheard. The social workermay have the client sign an informed consent if the client needs for participation to be verified or theclient is working with a treatment team and members are staffing progress and potential needs orchanges.
