The Cultural Factors and Interaction
Culturally competent nursing care for this individual will focus on recognizing the
patient’s individual needs, including language, customs, beliefs, and perspectives. This respect is
vital to reduce health disparities and improve access to high-quality of care that is responsive to
the patient’s needs and will allow you to build a relationship with this patient (Neese, 2017).
Knowing that in the Native American culture, they like silence and need time to think about their
responses is important so I will not rush through the questions or force him to answer quickly.
I will also be respectful to that fact that I am dealing with a younger male. I will be aware
of my body language and eye contact while finding out his belief system so that I can form an
appropriate plan of care. If I discover any of the same culture beliefs for my patient are the same
as mine, then I will use that to help him feel comfortable and safe to open up. Knowing that
