3. Dense wavelength division multiplexing advantages : a. Easy network expansion, especially for limited fiber resource, no need extra fiber but add wavelength, Low cost for expansion, because no need to replace many components such as optical amplifiers, could divided into multiple channels instead of using 12 fiber core. b. Less fiber cores to transmit and receive high capacity data. 3.Dense wavelength division multiplexing disadvantages: a. Not cost-effective for low channels, low channel recommended CWDM b. Complicated transmitters and receivers.

QN3.A company has two buildings that are 100 meters apart. Between the buildings is public land with a town owned road and no access tunnel. In one building is a collection of 30 computer workstations and in the other building is a computer server with an important database on it. What is the best way to connect the workstations to the server? Explain your reasoning and all the possible solutions you considered. Answer : Due to the condition of two buildings apart that has public land with a town owned road and no access tunnel , the easy and cheaper solution of twisted wire connection between computer and and workstation is not possible. If there had been access to the tunnel then easy setup of wiring of cable from computer to the passive switch and to the workstation would have been cheaper option as well as higher transfer rate of 100mbps would have been easily met. If higher insulation to outer noise and interference and high speed is needed then , optical fiber would have been viable option
