Now we will try to determine which major matriline ('haplogroup') this sequence belongs to. Go to the mtDNA Manager website (maintained by Yonsei University, in Seoul, Korea), at . A. Note that the 'African' metapopulation is the default target in the 'Target Group', and that the default database is the “FBI-African” database. To change metapopulations, use the dropdown menu. To change databases within each metapopulation, click on the database of choice in the ‘target group’ list (e.g., for the ‘African’ metapopulation, your choices are “FBI-African”, “Kenyan”, and “US-African”). B. In the ‘Sequence’ section, type “16185T 16223T 16260T 16298C” C. Check only the 'HV1' box in the 'Region' section D. Click the ‘Match’ button E. Hit the ‘Worldwide Frequency’ F. This should open a new window that lists the frequency of exact matches to your sequence in all of the various databases available on the site (it might take a while for the data to appear).
