BUILD UP PHASE:Build-up phase does not just happen and offenders make a series of choices where to get to this phase where an intervention must take place.Currently, the majority of sex offender treatment programs in the United States and Canada now use a combination of cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT) and RP (Center for Sex Offender Management, 2000).Interventions generally involve group and individual therapy to focus on victim awareness and empathy training, cognitive restructuring, learning about the sexual abuse cycle which include the build-up phase, RP planning, anger management and assertiveness training, social and interpersonal skills development, and changing deviant sexual arousal patterns (Center for Sex Offender Management, 2000).
