9 Summary In this reading, we discussed the fork-join parallelism model and Java’s ForkJoin library that supports this model of computation. We then looked at similar models such as the map-reduce model. Using richer models for parallel and concurrent programming may appear restrictive but their simplicity allows us to write programs that are safe from bugs and are easy to understand . It is much more convenient to rely on efficient and well-tested libraries for managing some of the challenges of concurrency. This choice also leads to software that is ready for change because of the simpler semantics. Lastly, we covered Amdahl’s Law as it helps us understand the value of parallelism. CPEN 221 – Fall 2016

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
