The client intended a reorganization, but had failed to clearly articulate how the change was intended to improve performance. According to John Kotter, author of Leading Change, “[v]ision plays a key role in producing useful change by helping to direct, align, and inspire actions on the part of large numbers of people.” (Kotter, 2012) The client’s lack of vision for the reorganization left the staff with a feeling of ennui. They perceived the planned changes as an unnecessary disruption to theircurrent process.
