Stella: But I still do not understand how I can go to heaven? Me: Well, when He died on the cross, He took our sins, past and present, and died for them. His blood covers our sins. Does He stop us from sinning and doing bad things? No, He gives us the right to choose, but He still has mercy on us and wants us to follow Him. Ultimately, following Jesus is so much more than just a decision. That is where it starts. But it is about wanting a relationship with Him because that is what He wants with you. “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13, New International Version) Stella: I can’t imagine that Jesus would want a relationship with me, even after all the terrible things I’ve done. Why would He want that with me? Me: Because He longs for relationship. He created you. He created me. In fact, He says this in Jeremiah, a prophet in the Bible: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…” (Jeremiah 1:5, New International Version) He knew you before you were even born! How amazing is that. He is King of the world, and He wants us to come to Him as we are. He wants us to be reconciled, or have relationship, with Him. This is all a lot to take in, yes? xii

Stella: Yes, it is. I feel overwhelmed. Me: I understand. It takes a lot to process all of the things that He did for us and is continuing to do for us. Why don’t we meet again next week to keep talking about this? In the meantime, you can keep thinking about our conversation and what it looks like to you to be in relationship with Jesus. Does that sound good? Stella: That sounds good. In the meantime, may I have some cookies? Me: You sure may, Stella. You sure may. xiii
