I, too, had no idea before this that so many definitions of democracy exist. I also feel that the "idea" of a representative democracy as we have here in the US is very good in theory but I donot feel that our representatives really represent us as they should.Elected officials pander to lobbyists and interest groups that sway their votes.
Unfortunately we, the people, suffer the consequences for these "pay offs". Most are not in our best interest but the the interest of the group that pays! There is an old quote: "he who pays the piper calls the tunes"! This is very appropriate for our government today!Pam Breen, R.N., B.S., CNORSonja CarterSonja CarterNov 9, 2017 Nov 9 at 7pmManage Discussion EntryHi Pam and thanks,Its funny you would use that quote, and how very fitting it is for the people who are running the government today. It is being said that this is the richest cabinet that hasbeen in office in a long time, and it seems that they are having their way.It is unfortunate that between all the twittering and negative news stories about our government officials, somebody would stop and think,we have a whole country to run, couldn't we supply the people with some of the ideas and values that they elected us to do and proposed in our campaigns?SonjaVictor MarceanoVictor MarceanoNov 6, 2017 Nov 6 at 6:47pmManage Discussion EntryProfessor and Class,Democracy is the method that allows people to choose their leaders and to hold theirleaders accountable for their policies. The USA uses all three of these forms, electoral college is an example of a representative democracy. Referendums and propositions are an example of direct democracy and Medicare is an example of a socialized industry within a democracy, meaning we the people have decided that a basic level of care is guaranteed.Roskin, M., Cord, R., Medeiros, J, & Jones, W.
