quality of life was better when the humans or the animals were in charge. Characters: Napoleon (pig) Snowball (Pig) Boxer (Horse) Squealer (Pig) Old Major (Boar) Clover (Horse) Benjamin (Donkey) Mr. Jones (Human) Mr. Fredrick (Human) Mr. Pilkington (Human) Mr. Whymper (Human) Topics: Revolution Hypocrisy Hierarchy Themes: Power and luxury drive people to hypocrisy and corruption. Society has a natural tendency to form hierarchies. Abuse of power leads to revolution. Manipulation can be accomplished by distorting the truth. Thoughts: I really enjoyed reading Animal Farm . Not only was it concise, but it also relayed an opinion of social revolutions in an unconventional manner. The Animals were the proletariat class, and the humans were the aristocracy. This story of overthrowing an unjust ruler in favor of a more fair system run by the working class is historically very accurate. George Orwell’s opinion on Revolution is clear, because although he recognizes that the ‘aristocracy’ is unjust in this case, he also portrays the corruption within the revolutionary leaders. Book: This Side of Paradise Author : F. Scott Fitzgerald Setting : England/America throughout Amory Blaine’s childhood-adolescence and beginning of adulthood. Plot: This Side Of Paradise tells the story of egotistical Amory Blaine’s early childhood through adulthood. He experiences love, loss, and intellectual revelations throughout his life, and has to learn from his mistakes the true meaning of love and life. Characters : Amory Blaine Rosalind Connage Beatrice Blaine Monsignor Darcy Thomas Park D’Invilliers

The plot was not interesting and the writing wasn’t captivating and didn’t hold my interest. I tried to keep an open mind for this book, as I know Fitzgerald is an acclaimed writer, but the end result was that the book was not one of my favorites (even though I LOVED The Great Gatsby when we read it in class).
