3. Induct the staff.
The staff will be represented by your assessor and at least one other student.
The induction and training session should last for approximately 15 minutes
Prior to beginning this activity, spend some time planning the session.
You are required to structure the induction and use language during the meeting to suit the
audience.
You will effectively be modelling the behaviour you expect from them, so consider what you want
this to be.
Consider how you want the staff to speak to the people they meet
Also review the Recruitment, Selection and Induction Policy and Procedures to ensure that you
are conducting the session according to organisational processes.
During the meeting, you should:
 Look at the data collection documents together and how they are to be filled out.
 Ensure that they know why the data is being collected, and how this activity fits with
Boutique Build’s strategic plan.
 Coach the staff in using the resources effectively, safely and economically.
 Review any workplace health and safety issues that would be relevant in the situation.
 Ask if they have any questions
During the meeting, you are required to demonstrate effective communication skills including:
 Speaking clearly and concisely
 Using non-verbal communication to assist with understanding
 Asking questions to identify required information
 Responding to questions as required
 Using active listening techniques to confirm understanding
At the end of the meeting, tell the staff that you are there to support them. Say that you will be
present at the model home for the first few days to mentor them until they are confident that they
can carry out the activities by themselves.
After your induction and training session, the Marketing Manager will introduce the staff to
Boutique Build’s products and services so they can answer potential customers’ questions.
