The day after my accident with Austin at Camelback, I had two black eyes from the impact. I felt lucky to be alive, as the doctors told me any higher of a ‘stab wound’ and I would at least lose my right eye, but more than likely I would have died too. This accident changed my perspective on life and my opinion on myself permanently. I have never been the same since the day of that accident mainly due to my furthered appreciation for life. I could have died that day in March, but instead I survived and have a scar on my face to prove it. I was asked regularly after the accident if I would ever return to extreme sports like snowboarding again, as it seemed dangerous for me to continue after nearly losing my life. The following year and every year after, I have returned to Camelback where I continue to hone my talents on a snowboard. I have gotten better since junior year of high school, and now I enjoy going to the terrain park on the mountain where I can hit jumps, rails and film my friends doing the same – things I wished I could do ever since I was a kid. Snowboarding has become a great source of enjoyment in my life, and I see the scar on my face as a reminder of my love for it.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
