43 To remain interested in the employee incentive program, employees need to have feedback on how they're doing. Employees may provide suggestions for improving the program. It is important to share and track all ideas with the all employees including upper management. Showing the progress of individuals or teams is critical to the success of the program. Entrepreneurs may also want to post individual or department results on highly visible posters. Rewards and Recognition "What gets rewarded gets done," the saying goes. Rewards and recognition are the most critical element in an incentive program. To achieve the company goals, participants must have positive consequences rewards and recognition that are desirable enough to motivate them to improve performance or change their behavior. It is also important to celebrate and recognize superior performance in the knowledge of the award earner's peers. This can be accomplished in person, by presenting a reward or recognition item at a company, sales, or department meeting, or via either print or web-based communications to the entire company or team. The following are a number of ways managers can thank their employees: Certificates, Plaques or Trophies Commemorative rewards remind a participant of his or her accomplishment long after an incentive program is over. Commemorative awards come in a variety of formats, styles, and price ranges and are usually personalized with the award earner's name, accomplishment, and the sponsoring company. Lunch with Top Management Managers may want to consider hosting a lunch or dinner where top performers join top management to be recognized for their superior performance. Dinner Certificates Managers may want to give employees a "free dinner" at a local restaurant. Thank You Letter from Management Managers may want to send a personal thank you letter to employees to recognize superior performance. An Awards Matrix Other awards include award cards, gift certificates, merchandise, group travel vouchers, individual travel vouchers, and so on. All businesses, products, sales, and services begin and end with employees. If employees are not focused on the behaviors the company has determined as important, the company is not

44 operating at 100 percent performance. The business is only as strong as the weakest link. It is, therefore, important to take the time to focus on a well-planned and meaningful employee incentive program. Enhance the Company's Visibility through Networking Finally, in preparing the organization for growth, the entrepreneur can use various networking methods to enhance the visibility of the company. Entrepreneurs should also examine industry association directories and prepare a target list of potential clients and vendors.
