The pre-assessment was something new to students as far as my class is concerned. I honestly do not often take time for pre-assessing because I always feel pressed for time. That being said, going into the unit with some familiarity was a positive for students. They did not seem to struggle as much as they have with some other units, and they seemed to feel positive about already knowing a little about rhetorical devices. Finally, having each student take part in presenting examples of rhetorical devices in Henry’s speech proved to be beneficial. Some students were unsure about presenting, as they often rely on others to present for them. This was good practice for students who will be required to make presentations next year for their senior projects. Since it was only one slide each, even my quietest students seemed to do fine explaining their rhetorical devices examples.
