In Ruby Moon all of the eight characters are performed by two actors, one male, and one female. The neighbours of Ray and Sylvie in the play are stereotyped characters, for example very religious, crazy, the sultry woman next door and the baby sitter who all cope with the disappearance of Ruby in different ways. The characters are striking, and compliment the surreal, nightmarish, ambiguity of the play. Ruby moon is a heavily character driven plot so each character has to be played with conviction. Unfortunately in a production I went to see of Ruby Moon the female actress in particular took the characters out of context and instead of portraying Sylvie, the paranoid grief stricken mother, she portrayed her as a mentally unstable house wife, which ruined the mysterious nature of her character. And instead of each character being distinguished by the physicality and vocal tone of each character the actress relied simply on her change of costume. Matt Cameron’s Ruby Moon is a classic example of contemporary Australia theatre as a form of political expression and a vehicle for expressing his opinion about the tragedy of loosing a child.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
